Secular Guide to the 2012 Election

As part of ISSA's focus on politics in the run up to the 2012 presidential election, Alex and I put together a presentation outlining the candidates' stances on a variety of secular issues. We know, of course, that when people vote, they consider many different issues and weigh them based on their personal priorities. But the guiding question of this talk was, “If you voted only on the basis of secular issues, what would you need to know about the two mainstream candidates for president?”

I understand that a 35 minute video is pretty long, so I've broken down the talk into its primary topics for easy viewing.

(0:00 - 3:55) Why does a candidate's religion matter?
(3:56 - 16:57 ) Personal religious views of the candidates
(16:58 - 29:15) Candidates’ official positions on secular issues
(29:16 - 32:16) Concluding remarks and final grades
(32:17-35:33) Q&A and gossip about the Church of the Latter Day Saints

So by all means, watch and enjoy! Comments and questions are always welcome. And most importantly: get out and vote!
