The value of fostering secularism in this country is beyond measure. By helping to provide a safe place for people questioning their beliefs now, the SSA is building the foundation for a national dialogue which includes and is accepting of nonreligious voices. Living in a country where a plurality of citizens profess to be Creationists, it could not be more important to build up an alternative. Merely by making people aware of nontheism and putting a human face on it, stigmas are broken down and questions are raised among people who have likely spent their whole lives buying into stereotypes. In confronting these stereotypes and fostering a philosophy of respect for science and questioning claims without evidence, the SSA stands to make a difference over time on the electorate. The democratic process is reliant upon an engaged and critical electorate to produce good policy -- a distracted or indifferent electorate has a negative impact on us all.
It doesn't matter if you're a current student or alum, secularist, apathist, or even a believer who is interested in a robust national dialogue. The Secular Student Alliance fosters a vital national conversation about evidence, science, and where our values come from. The seeds they plant now can make a big difference down the road, so click the donate button on the side to show your support!
