We here at the ISSA just wanted to thank the Muslim Student Association for a fun and engaging meet-up last week! We value any opportunity to learn and participate in open-forum discussion (and, for that matter, eat sandwiches), and look forward to spending more time with you guys!

I don't know if the MSA reads this space, but if so thanks we love you guys.
To people outside UI that I know read our blog: We might just be lucky at UI that our MSA folks are thoughtful, sincere and good humored. Your mileage may vary but it never hurts to reach out.
Also I want to say that unlike other outreach-y efforts we pull no punches and encourage all of our guests to speak their minds and hearts. We had many discussions about theology and politics, such as fatwas and the divinity of Jesus. I learned a good deal and had a total blast. Can't wait to see them again.

Well-put, Ed.
I love how the ISSA/MSA discussion/photo op is less than five posts above "Islam: A Religion of Violence".
Were you as candid with your displeasure with Islam in person as you are on the Internet?
The get-together was not quite about debating the nature of Islam - we were the listeners, trying to understand what it meant to be a Muslim in America. Of course, in the process we did ask tough questions, and misconceptions were dispelled. Just goes to show how honest dialogue trumps superficial appeasement.
Rohit, you clearly missed the memo that we should never, ever talk to anyone we disagree with under any circumstances.
Duh.
