The Vatican declared last week, in its daily publication L'Osservatore Romano, that Simpsons characters Bart and Homer are Catholic.
"Few people know it, and he does everything he can to hide it, but it is true: Homer J Simpson is a Catholic," insists L'Osservatore Romano. With their bleak luck in recruiting new members to their congregation, are they turning to animated characters now? Who's next – is Cartman from South Park a Presbyterian? Peter from Family Guy a Lutheran? Bigger question - is the Pope getting high at night watching cartoons with fellow priests?
It quoted an analysis by a Jesuit priest, Father Francesco Occhetta, of a 2005 episode of The Simpsons, The Father, the Son and the Holy Guest Star, which revolved around Catholicism and was aired a few weeks after the death of Pope John Paul II.”
Maybe they should have called the producers of the Simpsons, instead of relying on their divine revelations.
The producers of The Simpsons have contradicted the Pope's official newspaper by declaring that the animated family are not Catholic.D'Oh!

Ouch! Shot down, Popey boy!
But, really, I think I would like the Pope a lot more if he watched the Simpsons. Too bad anyone who's watched more than 3 episodes ever knows they're not Catholic.
Random fact: the creator Matt Groening is an atheist!
Definitely could have guessed that one! :)

Oops. Sorry for the double post...
Matt Groening is NOT an atheist. In fact several episodes or pieces of episodes are strongly pro-god, such as the Futurama episode "Godfellas".
I think it would be a pretty substantial exaggeration to call any episode of Futurama "pro-god".
He's actually said in multiple interviews that he's one o' them "agnostics"...
I think he's an agnostic deist. and you're just wrong about Futurama. I know how it sounds if you haven't seen it. See it. Or if you're too lazy read the synopsis on wiki. Godfellas.
You'll also notice during many a Simpsons episode faith is clearly shown as a virtue, like when the christian, jew, and hindu neighbor's save Homer from the fire (and at the end of the ep Homer sees his error and promises to go to church); or in the infamous Lisa's Angel episode when Lisa sees the angel illuminates she fearfully grabs her mother's hand.. abandoning reason for comfort.
In all the episodes that crap on religion not a one ever drives home the point of god not existing, only organized religion being stupid and corrupt.
Again, I've seen that episode easily fifty times. The tone is certainly contemplative, but I would not go so far as to say "pro-god".
I will grant you the Simpsons, though.
